Post 5: Changes to my Study Programme.
I’ve been studying at University of Chile since 2019,
even if I put on hold my Art career from 2021 to 2022, I would change
several things.
First of all, the infrastructure is the most basic and
obvious problem, I don’t know if the Dean has been trying to prepare us for bad
conditions or something (not funny at all), but the buildings are embarrassing
and some of them are literally falling in pieces. Students doesn’t have enough
chairs, tables or easels and we have to work in small and awful places.
About the curriculum, I think it would worked better if
students had a multidisciplinary course in common. This way students of music,
drama, visual arts and dance could have the opportunity to share opinions,
knowledge, and meeting classmates.
Okay, this is just my point of view, but I hate when teachers assume that we know everything. We’re studying for a reason, right? To learn. I would like to paint but I haven’t painted before and I can’t be in that kind of subject because in some cases, the methodology is like “do this, but you have to find out how and when it’s ready we review”. It makes me feel really anxious. I’m convinced not all of us have previously acquired artistic knowledge. I wish teachers could educate us in a different way, but I don’t even know how.
Also, it would be ideal if we could have an optional work placement on museums, studios or galleries. It would be a great guide for employment opportunities and get experience out of the University. Finally, if the coordinating committee gave us information about studying abroad, it would be very helpful. The opportunities exist, we just don’t know enough to take them.
